The MJC of Bize

The MJC of Bize (inactive)

Extract from the Town Information Bulletin no 74 of November 2008 - the editorial by the 1st deputy to the mayor of Bize-Minervois:

"Recently the inter-association meeting took place to arrange the events for the end of this year and the coming year. We have all regretted the quiescence of the Young Peoples' Club (MJC). In spite of its 70 members, excluding the officers, the general meeting of the MJC has brought together only 2 or 3 people. Today, the organisers have a feeling of failure, which I do not share. I would like to thank them for all that they have tried to achieve: dance, theatre, martial arts, table tennis, Fitiavana (gospel choir), and other things. Currently nobody has come forward to take over. Volunteers are becoming a rare commodity... less lottos and events are the first consequences.

People are retreating into the isolation of the sainted television or the super games console (video games). For some, Bize is a village, which maintains an air of freedom: swimming in the Cesse, walking, vines with their huts, cycle rides... but to cycle in an unsuitable place or to interfere with the river flow is dangerous. A child must be supervised to limit the risk!

All the generations need to live in greater harmony - grandparents, parents, and children. The relationships are there to weave links between the generations, based on respect and harmony. So, do not lessen your support, but help the association function."

Sincerely yours, Lydie Faure.

In the last years, the MJC of Bize-Minervois organised both one-off events and regular ones over a long period, under the presidency of Aurore Blaschek, who knew how to bring together different entertainers and activities, along with the help of Colette Carayol and SIVOM (the public services) of the Free Time at the Community of the Communes of the Canal du Midi in South Minervois. With the presidency of Cécile Lafon, the activities continued up to the autumn of 2008.
A large range of activities was proposed for the benefit of the children and young people. Once again, this was delivered with good will (contact the Mairie in Bize-Minervois).

This association presented numerous opportunities, working alongside the public services (SIVOM) of the Free Time, which consists of seven communes - Ginestas, Saint Nazaire d'Aude, Bize-Minervois, Mailhac, Pouzols-Minervois, Paraza and Sainte Valière.
In Bize-Minervois, around fifteen activities took place every week.

Here are some of the final activity team (from left to right): Colette Carayol, Mireille, Laetitia, Cécile Lafon, Valérie, Agnès, Aurée and Jean-Louis, who gave up their time to be involved in the MJC.
